Antique 18th Century EARLY 1760's STAFFORDSHIRE POTTERY CAULIFLOWER TEA CADDY

  
Creamware Whieldon/Wedgwood Type Majolica Cauliflower Tea Caddy. 4 1/2" tall with lid, 3" wide at bottom and 3 1/4 at top. Very good condition with no chips, cracks or scratches. Lid has a small dent.

Antique Staffordshire pottery tea caddy in the form of a cauliflower. This piece is often associated with the work of Wedgwood and Greatbach two of the major names in early Staffordshire pottery production.

They were early ceramic pioneers along with Thomas Whieldon in the mid 18th century. The technique used lead-glazed cream colored earthenware (creamware) with an underglaze colored metal oxide. The lower half of the body in green has distinctly molded long leaves, above which, on the body and lid, is the white cauliflower design.
