Antique 19th English Staffordshire Chinoiserie Transferware Porcelain Tea Caddy

A fun tea caddy from the Victorian period when romantic scenes from the Far East were in vogue. A light weight ceramic has had a transfer applied at firing. The design is of a Japanese family in a garden with a boat in the distance. There are lotus borders at the top and above the foot. The foot is very shallow and partially glazed.

The body glaze has a fine crackle. The decoration is in a dark cobalt blue. There is a series of 6 cartouches on the base with words BOTTMS, SILICON, CHINA , MING, MADE, ENGLAND. 3 ¼ (8.3 cm) diameter x 5 ¼ (13.3 cm) tall. Weighs 7.1 oz (205 g). There are no breaks, cracks, or chips. There a couple of rough spots on the foot and blue spots on the body from manufacture.. The piece is missing its lid.
