Edme Samson Armorial Tea Caddy. This exquisite tea caddy features a hand painted crest with Griffin Supporters. Edme Samson began his career in the 1830's in Paris and was a famous Copyist of Museum Quality items. His works have since become collectible in their own right, particularly the armorial or heraldic crest pieces. 5"High by 4.5" Wide.This particular caddy features a hand painted shield edges enhanced by polychrome enamel painted designs and flowers with enamel detail. Griffin supporters are framing an ornate crest marked "Sperabo" which is Latin for "be confident". It most likely dates mid to late 19th Century.
