Antique Royal Berlin KPM Egg on Legs, Tea Caddy or Jar, Scenic

  
CONDITION: Very light wear to gilding to be expected with antique porcelain, otherwise in excellent condition. This porcelain egg on legs was produced in Germany by the Royal Berlin Porcelain Manufactory or KPM between 1830 and 1840. It has the blue under glaze scepter mark of first quality.

It stands 5 1/2 inches tall, including the lid. The lid is formed in the shape of buds from the edelweiss flower. The egg shaped body has three Watteau scenes, very similar to the work of Meissen. The paintings are expertly done with minute detail and rich coloring.

Couples from the 18th century are promenading through gardens, serenading, and making conversation surrounded by garden landscapes. There are raised, molded flowers and leaves connected to the ornate, rococo legs. The legs are entwined with green vines attached to the flowers and leaves. The egg shape and the edelweiss have the meaning of spring and the renewal of life.
