Chinese Export Arms of New York Tea Caddy. This exquisite tea caddy features the arms of New York, a rare and sought after motif. Rimmed by a wavy blue band at top and dots surrounding the bottom. 5"H X 3"W.
Liberty holding a pole with a cap at the tip is depicted on the left, and Justice on the right wearing a blindfold and holding a scale, the iconic coat of arms of the state of New York appeared on Chinese Export porcelains made between the 1790s to the early 1800s. Many variations of the coat of arms are seen on surviving examples, and some developed into pseudo-arms with the central shield painted with either gilt flowers or the original owners' monograms. New York and the China Trade, David Howard, p. Condition: Professional restoration to rim, otherwise minor imperfections to be expected with age.
