FROM AN AMAZING LOCAL ESTATE COLLECTION OF RARE ITEMS. This rare, Meissen/Dresden hard paste porcelain 18th century tea caddy is beautifully hand-painted with garlands and sprays of flowers, musical instruments, a music book, a large laurel leaf letter C, elaborate gold leaf decoration on cobalt blue. Meissen porcelain was referred to as Dresden but no actual porcelain was made in Dresden. Because of world War II when Dresden was destroyed, almost all of the historical information was lost.
The mark on the base has a hand- painted blue mark in script with two fancy letters which look like an F and possibly an L. Below this is hand-painted "Dresden" in script. This tea caddy must have been cherished as it has a very old staple repair to the lid which would have been costly when it was done. An outstanding example of a good quality Meissen Dresden porcelain tea caddy! Please ask any questions you might have. Size: 4 3/4" x 2 5/8" x 1 7/8 (12cm x 6.7cm x 4.8cm).
